Dr. Charles Okeahalam
CEO / Managing Director, AGH Capital,
C. Charles Okeahalam is the CEO of AGH Capital, an investment holding company with interests in private
equity, real estate, marine and mining equipment.
Mr. Okeahalam has experience in central bank reforms, capital market development, and infrastructure
finance. He has served as a non-executive director of a number of companies including ABSA, Bond
Exchange of South Africa, Sun International, Air Tanzania and South African Airways; in the latter, he served
as chairman of the audit committee, playing a significant role in the carrier’s financial turnaround. Prior to cofounding
AGH, Mr. Okeahalam was a professor of financial economics and banking at the University of the
Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.
He holds a Ph.D in Econometrics from Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London and has
written extensively on economics, banking and finance. His intellectual contributions were recognised in
December 2010 with the distinguished award of the higher doctorate, D.Sc, in Financial Economics from the
University of Exeter. He is the first African to be awarded a D.Sc in this subject. Mr. Okeahalam is also a
member of the Council of the University of Cape Town.
